This week the Catholic Church took up special collections at Churches to support one of their favorite pastimes – banning marriage equality.

SAN FRANCISCO, June 26 /PRNewswire/ — A class action lawsuit Burns v. State of California Case No. CGC-08-481908 was filed on behalf of unmarried gays and lesbians in San Francisco Superior Court today, Friday June 26, 2009, one day before San Francisco’s gay pride festival. California Supreme Court to Rule on Prop 8

The California Supreme Court is set to rule on the validity of  Proposition 8, which eliminated the right of same sex couples to marry in California, sometime between now and June 3.  It appears that the decision date is already set, as police baricades have been dropped off in the City’s Castro district, the heart of the gay and lesbian community. With righteous indignation on it’s side, the Catholic Church in Maine has vowed to fight against the “Act to End Discrimination in Civil Marriage and Affirm Religious Freedom” which was recently enacted by the democratically elected state legislature and approved by the people’s duly elected governor.  The reason? Because the church is “deeply disappointed” with the decisions and is unwilling to accept a resolution which conflicts with it’s religious doctrines.
